Obesity-related asthma: a multifactorial disease

with Deepa Rastogi MBBS, MS, ATSF

Deepa Rastogi

A pediatric pulmonary physician scientist by training, Dr. Rastogi has built a research program investigating the biologic and clinical underpinnings of high asthma disease burden in obese urban under-resourced children, since they are poorly responsive to currently available asthma medications and have no effective treatment options.

Over the past decade, the Rastogi Lab has reported several novel findings on childhood obesity-related asthma, including the role of genes and environmental exposures in the disease burden of obesity-related asthma. Over these years, Dr. Rastogi has mentored over 40 individuals, including high school students, medical students, medical residents in pediatrics and family medicine, and fellows in pediatric hospital medicine, pulmonary and allergy immunology, as well as several early career faculty members.

Dr. Rastogi is a Tenured Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Pathology and Genetics and serves as the Division Chief of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She also directs the K12 program at the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Our bimonthly Science Seminar is open to everyone, providing a great way to stay current on the latest work in Environmental Health Sciences. Join us to learn about cutting-edge research and participate in conversations that bring together researchers, community leaders, and policy stakeholders.
