Perry Hystad, MSc, PhD, is an environmental epidemiologist and Associate Dean of Research at Oregon State University’s College of Health. He leads the Spatial Health Lab, which investigates how the places we live shape human health and well-being. His research focuses on environmental exposure assessment and epidemiology, with applications to air pollution, noise, healthy built environments, and climate resilience.
Perry earned his MSc in Geography from the University of Victoria and his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of British Columbia. A committed collaborator, he advances solutions to pressing environmental health challenges through interdisciplinary science. His recent projects include documenting harmful noise exposure in Portland, examining links between traffic congestion and infant health, and co-leading a nearly $5M initiative to establish a children’s environmental health research center at OSU. In 2024, he was named a Top Scholar by ScholarGPS, recognizing his global impact in environmental health research.
